Artist's Description
During my visit to Subotica, a beautiful city in the north of Serbia in the province of Vojvodina, full of architectural, cultural and religious sights, I could not miss this magnificent sacral building. I went inside and was immediately delighted with the sight. I took the camera and of course, took photos because it is allowed inside the Synagogue. This is a view of the central altar, Bima, also: Bimah, from the Greek word Βημα, the central place in the synagogue from where it is read from the Torah during worship.
The synagogue in Subotica is one of the largest in the world. It is the second largest in Europe and fifth in the world. In addition, it is certainly one of the most beautiful.
It was built in 1902 in Art Nouveau style by the project of Budapest architects Marcell Komor and Dezso Jakab, associate architect Ödön Lechner, the creator of the Hungarian Secession. In 1974 it was declared as a cultural monument of exceptional importance. Most of the Jews of Subot...
