Description
Walking along the lake Palic near Subotica one nice day in May, I couldn't just continue like that and not to stop and photograph this beautiful old building. This is a really impressive old style villa on the lake shore surrounded by trees and covered by the cloudy sky. It is in a bad condition now, but its former luxury and glow still can be sensed.
Near Subotica in Serbia, along the Palic lake promenade in the park, there is the Bagojvar, in translation owl's tower or owl's nest, a beautiful old building built with the neighboring villa Louise in 1891 within the sports complex of Lajos Vermes (Vermes Lajos), a prominent athlete and founder of the Palić Olympics in 1880. The villa was built in fashionable Swiss style at that time, with abundant use of wood and tiles of the famous Zsolnay ceramics from Pecs. The guest athletes stayed here, so it can be considered the first Olympic hotel in Europe, since it was built before the establishment of the modern Olympic Games. Next to Bogojvar, there is a monument dedicated to Lajoš Vermeš which was built later. There used to be an asphalt bike path, grandstands, exercise pavilions, a summer stage and a café. Today, Bogojvar is out of use and dilapidated, but when you look at it, you can imagine its former splendor. This old villa is also one of the famous tourist attractions and sights of the Palic lake and you can't miss it if you walk along the Palic lake. In May. Palic lake, Vojvodina, Serbia. From the Castles, Fortresses and Towers collection.
