Description
This photo was taken in the spring, one beautiful May day when I visited the Koporin Monastery in Serbia. This is a source of miraculous healing water which is located in the immediate vicinity of the monastery. This old well is right below the monastery in the woods, surrounded by trees and greenery and a paved path leads to it. Among many other interesting things which are worth photographing in this place, I've also found this old well and I was fascinated by the story I heard about it from nuns.
The story about this miraculous source is connected with the Despot Stefan Lazarević.
There is the legend that at the place where the spring is today, the horse of despot Stefan who was returning from hunting in which he was wounded fell. When the horse drank water from the spring, he suddenly recovered, so the despot, believing that this water has miraculous powers erected a monument there, which is still visited by many intentional travelers and almost all visitors to the monastery.
There is also a belief that this water helps people who cannot have children. The nuns testify that there are countless couples who sent letters of thanks or came to thank, together with their descendants, who were born after prayers in this monastery. A large number of believers and tourists visit this monastery throughout the year, and if you ever come to this part of Serbia, you should definitely visit it. It is beautiful here all year round, but it is most beautiful in spring and early autumn.
One late afternoon in May. Sumadija, Central serbia. From the Churches and Monasteries collection.
